From Wooler take the A697 north, signposted 'Coldstream'. At Akeld the road turns north and here there is a turnoff on to the B6351 signposted 'Kirknewton'.

Stay on this road through the village of Kirknewton, on, over a bridge, and you will soon see the cottages at Westnewton where there is a turn off marked 'Hethpool'.
